One day, legend says, there was a huge forest fire. All the terrified and shocked animals were watching powerless the disaster. Only the little hummingbird was activating, picking up a few drops of water with its beak to throw them on fire. After a while, the armadillo, annoyed by this derisory agitation, told him:

"Hummingbird! Are you crazy? You’re not going to put out the fire with those drops of water!"

And the hummingbird answered him:

"I know that, but I’m doing my part."

(Amerindian Tale, The Hummingbird Legend).

Sensitive to environmental issues and concerned to preserve the ecosystems of the Mindo region, the Samay Juku Mindo defends ecological and social values. Assuming that change to a more sustainable world takes place at a local and individual level, we try to apply the following values:

  • Consume natural and local products;
  • Decrease household waste;
  • Favor the soft mobility;
  • Avoid over-consumption and promote recycling;
  • Reduce energies consumption;
  • Preserving the environment through a sustainable lifestyle and daily moves.

In addition, the small size of the Samay Juku Mindo also contributes to this desire for sustainability. Indeed, we do not wish to become a mass tourism accommodation, but we prefer to offer our visitors a high quality of service and hospitality.
